Test-Driven CSS (sorta)
A common problem that web apps face over time is CSS bloat. Especially with new sites, any rapidly-evolving app is going to be subject to some serious front-end abuse in today's extreme programming world. As features are added, removed, and modified on a whim, it's all too easy for ...
Why I’m a Mac (and proud of it)
Ever since transitioning over from PCland in early 2004, my Mac affiliation hasn't been questioned much, due to the fact that most of the industry professionals around me also use them. It's kind of like being a liberal in NY, nobody's going to question your motives. This is all good ...
Complex CSS Management: Part I, Asset Packaging
When I started at Zenbe, I was pretty excited, because I knew it meant that I would be getting my hands dirty with some complex development issues. My history in web development has been mostly creating smaller, marketing-oriented websites, where you don't really have to worry about frequent code evolution ...

/me
My name is Jade Rauenzahn, and for more than half my life now, I've been creating websites.
Even when I was a kid, it was never a hobby. It wasn't paying work, but I took it on as if it were, ignoring homework and skipping study hall to work on the web. It was fun, addicting, and empowering. By the time I was 17 I had a number of sites under my belt, from an officially endorsed Dark Angel media 'blog' to an internationally recognized fan-rights movement known as Operation Blackout. Web's been in my blood from the start, and I have no intention of letting it go.
Since graduating from Full Sail down in Winter Park, Florida, I've been lucky enough to work with fresh, innovative marketing companies who are at the top of their craft. It was like boot camp in a way, getting thrown into creating interactive solutions from concept to launch.
While marketing was fun, I felt like I would be more at home focused on a singular application, so I joined up with the enlightened email startup, Zenbe. There, I practice building complex JavaScript classes and other fun UI tidbits (sometimes I do Rails stuff!) for a full-blown web application, facing new challenges and embracing them with my trademark bullheaded optimism.
In the evenings I'm glued to my laptop, learning web frameworks, javascript libraries, and how to be a pragmatic programmer who can accomplish any task with relaxation and ease. Oh, I also like to brainstorm projects that will one day shape the web.
When I'm not doing any of the above, I do like to find some time to hang out with my friends at various bars / concert venues around my lovely little neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen, NYC.
Needless to say, I don't sleep much.
On a personal level, I'm extremely passionate and driven about all I do and believe. I'm an opportunist, a dreamer, and a firm Libertarian, politically as well as philosophically. I'm also a bit of a 'mactard' but I'm not smug about it... well, ok maybe a little.
